English: Bronze Ding of Ren (cooking vessel)
  • Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 - 771 B.C.)

Cooking vessels such as this were also ritual objects, symbolizing power and wealth; the number of dings allowed in a burial was regulated according to official position and social status.

An inscription inside this ding records that an important man named Ren received gifts from the King of Zhou - in return, Ren had this vessel made to commemorate the viture and morality of the Zhou king.
