DescriptionCMOC Treasures of Ancient China exhibit - edict plates.jpg |
English: Bronze Edict Plates with Western Xia characters. Exhibition "Treasures of China", Canadian Museum of Civilization, 2007.
Created by the Dang Xiang ethnic group, the Western Xia characters used modified Chinese scripts. When joined together perfectly, these bronze plates prove the bearer's identity. The interior of one plate is decorated with stylized patterns; on the other plate is written Western Xia characters. Edict plates were used to send urgent documents and messages, under imperial orders. |
