Nederlands: Repronegatief. Op de 'noordarm' ten westen van de Minahasa lag het 'landschap' (bestuurlijk een Afdeling) Gorontalo met de gelijknamige hoofdplaats. Het gebied met twe inheemse rijkjes, Gorontalo en Limboto, viel vanaf 1677 onder de suzereiniteit van de VOC. Toen de Nederlanders in de 18e eeuw ontdekten dat er goud in de grond zat, nam hun belangstelling nog toe. Toch was de Nederlandse invloed lang niet zo groot als in de Minahasa en de streek was grotendeels islamitisch. Ook de dichtheid van de bevolking was geringer dan in de Minahasa en het economisch leven was grotendeels op zelfvoorziening gericht. Wel was de samenleving van oudsher hiërarchisch geordend. (P.
