Nederlands: Negatief. Negara is vermoedelijk de plaats waar het rijk Negara Daha was gevestigd tot begin 16e eeuw het sultanaat Bandjermasin werd gesticht. Het gebied had in de 19e eeuw een uitzonderlijk hoge bevolkingsdichtheid voor Borneo. Het stadje Negara was een centrum van nijverheid, waar bijvoorbeeld traditionele, maar ook relatief moderne wapens vervaardigd werden. Dergelijke vormen van nijverheid waren vaker een teken dat er ooit een vorstelijk hof was geweest. Negara was het centrum van de Hoeloe Soengai, een al vroeg ontboste streek, waar veel mensen leefden van het planten van rijst en peper. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
