English: A 'Fokker F VII' flying over Batavia's harbour Tanjung Priok
Nederlands: Foto. Met het vliegtuig op deze foto, de Fokker F VII met registratienummer H-NACC, werd in 1924 de eerste commerciële vlucht Holland-Batavia gemaakt door A.N.J. Thomassen A Thuessink van der Hoop, H. van Weerden Poelman en P.A. van der Broeke.
In de 17e en 18e eeuw duurde een scheepsreis van Nederland naar Batavia gemiddeld 8 maanden. Gedurende de 19e eeuw zou dit aantal sterk afnemen door de komst van de stoomschepen en door de opening van het Suezkanaal (1869). In 1920 duurde een scheepsreis van Nederland naar Java nog maar ongeveer een maand. Tegenwoordig duurt die reis nog geen vol etmaal. Een ontwikkeling die begon in 1924, toen het eerste vliegtuig, een Fokker F VII als op de foto, de tocht van Nederland naar Java maakte. In 1930 begon de KLM met regelmatige vluchten. (P.
