Nederlands: Repronegatief. Al aan het einde van de 19e eeuw kwam er een tijd dat bamboebruggen niet meer voor elke overspanning van een rivier de oplossing waren. Dat was toen er achtereenvolgens treinen, trams en auto's verschenen. Met de eerste spoorlijnen kwam er niet alleen een heel nieuw transportnetwerk bij, maar er moesten ook revolutionaire oplossingen bedacht worden voor de bruggen die de zware stoomlocomotieven met de zwaarbeladen goederenwagons (aanvankelijk ging het niet zo zeer om passagiers maar om producten) moesten kunnen dragen.
