Nederlands: Negatief. Ook aan het eind van de koloniale periode was de bevolking in het binnenland van Boeroe nog grotendeels 'heiden'. Dat betekende ondermeer dat men in een groot aantal gevallen geloofde dat er iets aan de hand was met de 'ziel' (of een van de 'zielen') van iemand die ziek was. De sjamaan of spiritueel specialist was geverseerd in de kunst van het nagaan wat er met die afgedwaalde of bedreigde ziel aan de hand was. Soms was er een 'heks' of 'tovenaar' die de ziel belaagde, maar er kon ook een taboe overtreden zijn of een voorouder veronachtzaamd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
