Nederlands: Negatief. Bouwen deed men niet alleen voor de levenden maar ook voor de doden. Vooral onder de Bataks was dat gangbaar. Op de foto het graf van een guru, elders door de Batakkers ook wel datu genoemd. Deze figuur, daterend van voor de kerstening, was een tovenaar-heler-sjamaan, kortweg een ritueel specialist. De guru was degene die de genealogie van de raja adat (traditioneel hoofd) bijhield in het eigen Batakschrift en voorspellende kalenders of orakels vervaardigde en interpreteerde. Daarnaast hadden de bataks meer algemene schedel- of knekelhuizen (geriten), die er, net als het graf van de guru op de foto, uitzagen als een Batakhuis in het klein. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
