Nederlands: De molen wordt gebruikt voor het persen van olie uit noten van de arganboom nadat deze noten eerst geroosterd zijn of in water gekookt. Onder het draaien van de bovenste molensteen m.b.v. de uitstekende handvat worden de noten in het middengat, waar de as zich bevindt, gestrooid en fijngewreven tussen de stenen. De olie komt terecht in de goot en kan via de tuit opgevangen worden. De olie kan gebruikt worden voor de fabricage van zeep en voor verlichting, maar dient voornamelijk voor huishoudelijke consumptie.
De arganboom (Argania Sideroxylon) is een naaldboom die buiten Marokko onbekend is en alleen groeit tussen de Atlantische kust en de Hoge- en Anti-Atlasgebergten (de Sousvallei). |
