Nederlands: Gesneden in traditionele Bobo-stijl, d.w.z. kop met kokervormige snuit; kegelvormige ogen, bestaande uit concentrische ringen. De horens beschrijven een grote cirkel en zijn dubbelconvex van doorsnede (Hans Himmelheber 1960: 81, afb. 68). Gedragen door leden van het Do genootschap bij dodenherdenkings feesten en vruchtbaarheidsriten.
Bij de Bobo zijn verschillende diermaskers in gebruik (krokodil, buffel, kameleon, vlinder), welke bij elkaar horen, in die zin, dat elke wijk van een dorp één masker heeft, waarmee ze soms in de wijk zelf en soms gezamenlijk, optreden. Deze gezamenlijk uitgevoerde ceremonie vindt in het voorjaar plaats, want al deze dieren hebben een bepaalde relatie met dit jaargetijde. De Katalogus Kunsthaus Zürich vermeldt op pagina 52: o.a. karakteristiek voor de Bobo-Ule (rode Bobo), ook Bwa genoemd, is de geometrische wit-rood-zwart beschildering. Iedere dorpswijk en iedere clan heeft zijn speciale maskervorm. De maskerdansers van het Do-genootschap dansen in kostuums van rode vezels met zwepen, stokken of bundels bladeren als wapen, hoofdzakelijk bij dodenherdenkingsfeesten en vruchtbaarheidsriten. |
