English: Cockfighting
Nederlands: Repronegatief. Naast Balinese dansen zijn de hanengevechten altijd een trekpleister geweest voor toeristen (en antropologen), maar ook de Balinezen zelf waren (en zijn) er altijd druk mee bezig. Hanengevechten waren populair in heel Zuidoost-Azië. In landen als de Filippijnen en Thailand is dat nog steeds het geval. Ook in de Archipel was het hanengevecht in het verre verleden een populair vermaak, maar in de 19e eeuw heeft de koloniale staat het bijna overal verboden. Ook de orthodoxe islam wilde er niets van weten. Deze oppositie was gebaseerd op het feit dat er veel weddenschappen werden afgesloten op deze gevechten. Dat kon tot gewelddadigheden en flinke schulden leiden.. Hanengevecht |
