Nederlands: Hoogstwaarschijnlijk een voorouderbeeld. Als deze beelden eenmaal uit de context zijn gehaald, is de precieze representatie niet meer te achterhalen. Ze worden pas gemaakt na het consulteren van leden van het Sandogo orakelgenootschap. Dit zou volgens Robert Goldwater (1964:23/24) erop kunnen wijzen dat de beeldjes gebruikt worden als divinatie-objecten, met name ruiterfiguren en beeldenparen.
Een dergelijk beeld kan dus meerdere functies hebbenen, waaronder orakelinstrument, voorouderfiguur, vruchtbaarheidsbeeld en beschermende geest. |
