Nederlands: Negatief. Op Tanimbar werd prijs gesteld op sieraden. Zo importeerde Tanimbar al eeuwen olifantstanden van Sumatra, omdat ivoren sieraden een rol speelden bij de bruidsprijs. Tanimbar heeft wat weg van het veel bekendere eiland Nias, voor de westkust van Sumatra. In beide gevallen is er sprake van hiërarchisch geordende samenlevingen, monumentale stenen ornamenten en een aristocratie die moet laten zien over hoeveel zilver en goud ze beschikt. Er zijn 'manlijke' en 'vrouwelijke' sieraden, zowel wat de vorm betreft en de daarbij behorende associaties, als ten aanzien van de makers van de sieraden. De 'priester' op de foto draagt een halssnoer van schelpen, gouden oorringen en een (gouden?) hanger. Pastoor Nieuwenhuis zat van 1912 tot 1939 op Tanimbar. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
