Nederlands: Het kind behoort tot een familie die gevlucht is uit buurland Mali waar de repressie van de Tuareg versterkt werd door een periode van droogte in 1969-1974 en een hongersnood die daarop volgde. Vele Tuareg vluchtten de grenzen over of zochten hun heil in vluchtelingenkampen.
"Dr. Jan Broekhuyse van het Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen in Amsterdam zei over de situatie: "Het Malinees bestuur treed hard op tegen de Tuareg. Het zijn zwarte heersers tegenover een zichzelf blank beschouwend Tuareg volk dat een eigen sociale en politieke structuur met eigen opvattingen heeft waardoor zij zichzelf niet geringschatten. … Als in Mali genoeg eten is krijgen de Tuareg ook genoeg. Is er te weinig eten dan krijgen de Tuareg weinig of niets. Er speelt een politiek argument mee: die zwarte jongens weten goed dat de Tuaregs niet uit te roeien zijn maar je kunt ze wel op rantsoen zetten zodat de uitroeiing sterk wordt bevorderd." Van het kind bestaan meerdere opnames onder inventarisnummer 20010132 en 20010161, op de laatste wordt hij gefilmd door een cameraploeg van het NCRV programma Hier en Nu bestaande uit Wim Jansen, Chris van Duuren en Harm Groeneveld. |
