Nederlands: Negatief. In de hele Molukken was sago een van de belangrijkste voedingsmiddelen. Rijst groeide er maar nauwelijks en de rijkere inheemse bevolking en de Europeanen moesten het dan ook invoeren. Sago komt van verschillende soorten bomen, maar Metroxylon sagu is daarvan wel de bekendste. De palm groeit op vele plaatsen in de Molukken in het wild, zodat er bij een goed beheer altijd een voedselbron beschikbaar was. Op strategische plaatsen nam de VOC het beheer van de sagobossen op zich. De sago moet enige bewerkingen ondergaan voor ze voor consumptie geschikt is, al verschilt de mate van bewerking van plaats tot plaats. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
