| Description |
Nederlands: Repronegatief. Het Ombilin-kolenveld bij Sawah Loento werd ontdekt in 1868, maar het duurde geruime tijd voor het in exploitatie werd genomen. Eerst moest er namelijk voor gezorgd worden dat det transport van de gedolven steenkool in orde was. In 1887 werd daarom besloten tot de bouw van een spoorweg dwars door het Barisangebergte naar de wegkust evenals de aanleg van een aparte haven (Emmahaven). Pas in 1892 begon de ontginning van het eerste kolenveld en wel in overheidsexploitatie. De mijnen waren dus van het begin af aan van rails voorzien, waarmee niet alleen kolen werden afgevoerd maar waarmee ook mijnhout voor het stutten van de mijngangen werd aangevoerd. (P.
