Summary edit

Description
English: This is an hourly animation of the day-night portions of Earth during the June solstice rendered using the Cahill–Concialdi Bat map projection.

The Cahill–Concialdi projection was created by Luca Concialdi in 2015 and is essentially a rearrangement of the conformal variant of the butterfly map projection developed by w:Bernard J. S. Cahill in 1909. The rearrangement aimed to ensure that the northern hemisphere is uninterrupted with the only cut located at the Bering Strait, and puts New Zealand right next to Australia, which is not the case in almost all variants and adaptations of Cahill's map projections, such as the Cahill–Keyes. More background information about this new map projection is available in this blog post.

This rendition of the Cahill–Concialdi uses a northern hemisphere cut at 168.5°W on the Bering Strait instead of Luca's original 170°W which clips the tip of the Chukchi Peninsula on the easternmost part of Russia and the large St. Lawrence Island in Alaska. Unfortunately, there is no line of longitude passing through the Bering Strait that doesn't cut any island, but using 168.5°W at least only cuts the minor Aleutian island of Umnak.
