Summary
editDescriptionCamber Navy Fuel Depot (51065633141).jpg | An Admiralty fuel depot at Camber Point, on the shore opposite Stanley. Originally constructed in the late C19 as the South Atlantic Naval Fuel Station with two large coal sheds to restock naval vessels operating in the South Atlantic. As ships moved to a Furnace Fuel Oil (FFO) there was no longer a requirement for large stocks of coal, and two 8,000 ton fuel tanks were constructed. a narrow gauge railway was constructed to provide coal to the steam generators at Moody Brook which were used to power the radio station. |
