| Description |
Preah Khan is a large temple complex built in the 12th century around the same time as Ta Prohn and Angkor Thom. It was apparently built to commemorate the King's victory over the invading Chams. Like many sites, it has both Hindu and Buddhist elements. The temple was latest dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The site has purposefully only been partially restored. Some of the structures have been rebuilt or strengthened, but other have been left ruined and few efforts have be made to patch broken blocks and doorframes. I think they did a great job at it, opening the site to exploration, but allowing it to show it's age and atmosphere. |
