English: This colorized photo postcard, probably taken in the summer of 1917, shows United States Army Ambulance Corps trainees sleeping in pup tents on the grassy area of Camp Crane. This was the midway area of the Allentown Fairgrounds before World War I used for carnival exhibits and rides. The large building in the rear is the Allentown Fair Arts and Science Hall which was located along Chew Street. The corner of the Poultry and Pigeon Hall is to the right. These buildings were torn down in the 1940s. As Camp Crane was developed by the Army later in 1917, temporary wooden dormitories were erected and the men were moved out of the tents into heated dorms, along the 17th Street side of the Camp.
