r reachcorrect results. The alhed morale and the German morale are spoken of asthough similar, yet they are so unlike that the difference betweenthem has gone far to win the war. There are two elements that constitute morale, the beliefthat ones cause is just and that right cannot be defeated, andthe knowledge that one has superiority of arms and cannot bedefeated. The dominating factor in alUed morale was faith in therighteousness of their cause; the beUef in their mihtary superioritybeing secondary. In German morale the dominating factor was beUef in theirmihtary superiority; faith in the justice of their cause was a sec-ondary consideration. In either case the crushing of the domi-nating element in the national morale would rapidly result in acrumbling of resistance.
