e locomotive shop is con-structed with structural steel frame car-ried on concrete foundations. The exteriorwalls up to the window sill line are ofconcrete, above the window sills of hollowtile plastered. Ample window area is pro-vided in the side walls and in roof moni-tors and skylights, so as to give sufficientnatural lighting. Good ventilation is ob-tained through ventilators in the monitorsand skylights, and by the use of swinging locomotive shop. It is an L shaped struc-ture 2(S:i by 80 ft., with L 180 by 80 ft.,and affords space for making repairs tolocomotive tenders, steam shovels andmaintenance of way equipment. The por-tion of the shop intended to receive theequipment to be repaired is spanneu overits entire area by a 20 ton high speedtravelling electric crane equipped with two10 ton trolleys. Longitudinal tracks on20 foot centres extend to the doors in thlbuilding wall. A car puller is installedfor moving the equipment into and out oxthe shop. A sufficient number of tracks

A suitable sys-tem of piping is provided for distributinglive steam, compressed air, fuel oil andwater for fire protection, drinking andhydraulic pressure. Outlets for compressedair are provided in duplicate in the sidesof each of the engine pits to supply com-pressed air for operating pneumatic tools. In the main locomotive shop the elec-trical feeders from the power companytransmission lines are carried in under-ground ducts, bringing the current al the sash in the vertical walls. With the ex-ception of the blacksmith shop and a por-tion of the boiler shop the floor throughoutis constructed with a 11/2 in- asphalt mas-tic wearing surface which is underlaidwith a rough concrete slab about 6 ins.thick.
