Description
English: Photographer: Unidentified

Location: Ayr, Queensland, Australia
Description: Canecutters posing in front of sugar cane at Ayr, ca. 1907. They wear hats, shirts and trousers. Some men hold machetes. Image is taken from a hand-tinted postcard. Caption: A gang of cane cutters, Ayr.
The postcard was posted at Brandon, Queensland on 4 May, 1908, and addressed to Miss M. Morgan, c/- Mr S. Weller, Brisbane Road, Monkland, Gympie. The text reads: Dear Mary, Just a pic [sic] to let you know that I have not forgotten. This is a better picture than the one you had. It is a farm not far from where we live. I have been in Ayr shopping this last week. I have been loving sewing. The show is here next week. I wonder if it as good as the Gympie show. You find these few lines find you all quite well. Rem [sic] me to all at home. Bella. Brandon, 3/5/08.
