DescriptionCapel Hen Bethel(MC), Llanrhuddlad-Llanrhyddlad - geograph.org.uk - 1252329.jpg |
English: Capel Hen Bethel(MC), Llanrhuddlad/Llanrhyddlad This, for a rural Calvinistic chapel, rather ostentatious building was erected in 1905, its style aping that of Llanrhuddlad parish church (Church in Wales). It was a far cry from the first chapel at Llanrhuddlad erected in 1787 by amongst others the much persecuted religious fanatic William Prichard of Clwchdernog SH3386 which was known as Y Capel Mwd (The Mud Chapel) because it was built of clay and earth. The first chapel built on this site was that of 1799. This was rebuilt in 1839. Capel Hen Bethel remains open. The money for building the 1905 chapel was donated by Sir William Thomas, a local boy who made a fortune in Liverpool from speculative residential building and shipping. A monument to his memory stands on the summit of Mynydd y Garn SH3190
