| Description |
English: Down express with LMR locomotive at Pengam Junction, Cardiff. View eastward, towards Newport, Severn Tunnel Junction etc.: ex-GWR South Wales main line. A year or two earlier the sight of an ex-LMR locomotive on such a train on this line would have been extremely unusual, but in the last months of steam this was not so. This is a Crewe North Stanier/Ivatt 5MT 4-6-0, No. 44683 (built 7/50 - fitted with roller-bearings, withdrawn 4/68) on an unidentified Down express, which may have come from the North-to-West line through Hereford. |
