Summary edit

Description
English: The Carl M. Plueckhahn House, 10 Treehaven Road, Buffalo, New York, February 2022. Built in 1940 by the Merrill Construction Company, this one-and-a-half-story brick residence abuts the northern border of the city, in the once prestigious and still attractive neighborhood known variously as Treehaven or Judges' Row. With its modest scale, simplified forms, and eclectic mishmash of period-revival stylistic influences (the steep front gable and offset entrance are cribbed from the Tudor Revival, while the lunette window comes from the Colonial) all exemplify the so-called Minimal Traditional aesthetic that came to prominence in middle-class residential architecture in the period immediately before and after the Second World War. As to the interior, a classified advertisement aimed at potential buyers of the then-still-under-construction home touted its "cheerful living room, wood-burning fireplace, dining room, modern kitchen (one any woman would be happy to have), two finished bedrooms [with] additional space for two more, modern bath, [and climate control courtesy of an] American Radiator gas furnace". Its eventual buyer was postal clerk Carl Martin Plueckhahn, Jr. (1892-1967), who with his wife Alice (1892-1974) lived in the house until their respective deaths. However, it's also notable as the residence of former Buffalo Public Schools superintendent Marion Canedo during the four years she spent in the city, from 2000 until '04.
