[addressed:] Miss Francis [sic] E _Appleton / ~Boston
[endorsed:] From Caroline / August 14th: 1829_
[red stamp ink visible]
Lowell August 14th [penciled in:] 29
My Dear Frances.
How dissapointed [sic] I am that I connot [sic] come to your house with father. I have not been to our house by the side of the river since you left I suppose the flowers are all dead, and, the house furniture blown away. I have had a very dull time since you went away. On Sunday I was presant [sic] at the funeral service of Mr Charles Smith And I stopped to see it performed, it was very affecting. If Elizebeth has returned to Boston give my love to her and tell her to write to me soon. Sunday morning before church I had a beautiful walk with Father & Brother it was beside the canal, on one side was some woods on the other some beautiful Oak –trees, We heard a consort of birds, it sounded so clear because there was no other sound. Give my love to Mary. We are all very well except Mother who has got a bad cold.
I remain your dearest
Cousin
Caroline
