| Description |
English: Carriage Works, Derby I discovered this strange looking 'tram' by accident. It, the overhead electric locomotive and the length of track, is in fact a traverser. A traverser is a single piece of track which is moved from side-to-side between parallel sheds or tracks. A carriage, in this case, could be drawn out of the shed onto the traverser, moved a few feet and then drawn back into a parallel part of the same shed. This alleviated having a lot more trackwork and points, covering a lot more space. A traverser can also be called a transfer table.
I'm sure of the grid reference, but not the works title. |
