| Description |
English: Carrying Coals to Wales A brace of Class 20 locomotives bring a mixed freight train through the yard at Severn Tunnel Junction. The train has almost certainly originated in Toton yard and it's intriguing to see coal being brought into South Wales. It is possibly a different type of coal to that produced locally and may be better suited to coking. Its likely destination was Llanwern steel works, just a short distance down the line.
Behind the train on the left is Severn Tunnel Junction Station. In the centre is the signal box controlling the yard. The signal box has been demolished and the yard it controlled lifted since this photo was taken. The area is now overgrown. |
