Description

Reggia di Caserta, Caserta, Campania, Italia. Statue e fontane nel parco.

Italiano: La Fontana di Eolo è un monumentale gruppo in marmo di Carrara e travertino. È opera di più scultori (Salomone, Brunelli, Violani, Persico e Solari).

Incompleto, di esso rimane un modello in legno voluto dall'architetto Vanvitelli (il progetto iniziale risale al 1759, il modello a sei anni dopo).
Il tema trattato dalla scultura è classico: riguarda il mito dei Venti sprigionati da Eolo che, sollecitato da Giunone, intendeva allontanare Enea dall'Italia.
Un'articolata una serie di antri fa scaturire le statue di ventotto venti (cinquantaquattro nel progetto originale) dalla cui bocca spalacata sgorga l'acqua che alimenta la fontana.
