Montemayor del Río is a municipality in the district of Sierra de Béjar , in the province of Salamanca , Castile and León, Spain . The town has an area of ​​15.30 km ² . Its altitude is 677 m above sea level. The town of Montemayor is the Cordillera Central between the Gredos massif and the Sierra de Francia (Sierra de Bejar ) . Located southeast of the province of Salamanca , near the province of Cáceres , the municipality reaches the line separating the two provinces . To reach the resort, both north and south, must be done through the N630 or the highway de la Plata , deviating up to Penacaballera . You have to travel seven miles along a narrow and difficult local road. The town is twinned with the eponymous village of Montemayor in the province of Córdoba. Montemayor del Río was declared a Historic Artistic 1982 . Located next to the old Calzada de la Plata, in the Middle Ages had jurisdiction over fourteen villages , some of which remain today part of its name , as Colmenar de Montemayor , Baños de Montemayor and Horcajo de Montemayor , among others.

Montemayor del Río es un municipio de la comarca de la Sierra de Béjar, en la provincia de Salamanca, Castilla y León, España. La localidad tiene una superficie de 15,30 km². Su altitud es de 677 m sobre el nivel del mar. La villa de Montemayor está en la cordillera Central, entre el macizo de Gredos y la Sierra de Francia (Sierra de Béjar). Situada al sureste de la provincia de Salamanca, muy cerca de la provincia de Cáceres, su término municipal llega hasta la línea de separación de las dos provincias. Para llegar a la localidad, tanto del norte como del sur, hay que hacerlo a través de la N630 o la autovía de la Plata, desviándose a la altura de Peñacaballera. Hay que recorrer siete km por una estrecha y difícil carretera local. La localidad está hermanada con la villa homónima de Montemayor en la provincia de Córdoba. Montemayor del Río fue declarada Conjunto Histórico Artístico en 1982. Ubicada junto a la antigua Calzada de la Plata, durante la Edad Media tuvo jurisdicción sobre catorce pueblos, algunos de los cuales conservan hoy en día parte de su nombre, como Colmenar de Montemayor, Baños de Montemayor y Horcajo de Montemayor, entre otras.
