Description

Situado en un islote de la ensenada de Santa Cruz, fue mandando construir para completar el sistema defensivo de la bahía coruñesa (junto con el Castillo de San Antón) por el general Diego das Mariñas en el siglo XVI. Con el paso de los años fue perdiendo valor estratégico, hasta convertirse en el pazo de la familia de la escritora Emilia Pardo Bazán. Tras la muerte de ésta, el castillo fue donado a la Armada de Caballería, que lo destinó a residencia estival de huérfanos de militares.

En la actualidad, el edificio es propiedad del ayuntamiento, y alberga el CEIDA, centro de extensión universitaria y divulgación ambiental de Galicia.
