Description

The castle of Bornem is in the Count's estate along the Old Scheldt, a cut-off oxbow from the 13th century. It stands on the foundations of an older castle from the 10th or 11th century. Spanish nobleman Pedro Coloma had the castle rebuild in the 16th century. The domain is since 1773 in the possession of the family De Marnix. In 1880 count Ferdinand de Marnix de Saint-Aldegonde rebuilt the castle in neo-Renaissance style. The current lord of the castle maintains his castle with a lot of commitment. It can be visited by appointment and during open Sundays in August.
