No alto do morro, a norte da vila da Amêndoa, perduraram no tempo vestígios de um povoado que se pensa ter começado a ser habitado 2000 anos a.C.. Deve ter conhecido o seu apogeu durante as guerras lusitano-romanas (entre o século III a.C. e I d.C.). O Castro de São Miguel é constituído por cerca de 50 habitações, defendidas por muralhas nos lados de mais fácil acesso. Todas as habitações têm paredes de pedra seca ou argamassa muito primitiva e uma planta retangular ou quadrangular.
