ARABE MONT ANT A CHEVAL FERDINAND VICTOR EUGENE DELACROIX No. 14FERDINAND VICTOR EUGENE DELACROIX 1799—1863ARABE MONTANT A CHEVAL Height, 22 inches; width, ISl/o inches In the foreground an Arab, dressed in pointed blue turban and a tunic of the samecolor, with an ample burnous falling from his shoulders and a scimitar hung tohis side by a red cord, stands at the off side of a prancing Arab steed, his rightfoot in the stirrup, one hand clasi)ing the cantle, the other the mane of thehorse, and is about to throw himself into the high saddle, which is draped with arich housing of red material trinuued with gold. Beyond the group two riders,brandishing long guns, are galloping their horses up a steep slope, and far away inthe distance is a jagged range of mountains which form the horizon line. Thelandscape is in strong sunlight effect from the right, and the foreground group is ina vigorous effect of light and shade. Signed at the lower right, Eug. Delackoix. Collection A, Paris, 1858.
