This was our first glimpse of the kind of rock formations we would be seeing all week as we explored Bryce Canyon. When these outcroppings wear down more, they separate into hoodoos, or thin spires of colored rock.

We were lucky to be at the Breaks just as the morning sun was peeking over the rim of the canyon. The sky did not photograph as well because of smoke from a forest fire about 30 miles southwest.
