| Description |
English: Cemented scree The rock outcrop at the north of the small terrace with the gun emplacements is most interesting. During the cold but ice-free period at the end of the last ice age, around 10-12,000 years ago a scree of limestone blocks of various sizes has developed at the foot of the cliff forming the west side of the Great Orme. Lime-rich groundwater has subsequently percolated through the mass of rubble and deposited sufficient cement to form a very cohesive mass. Blocks of this material have fallen intact to the beach platform below. |
