Plenário do Senado Federal durante sessão solene do Congresso Nacional, para lembrar o centenário de falecimento de Ruy Barbosa.

O busto de Ruy Barbosa tem sido testemunha dos trabalhos legislativos no Plenário do Senado ao longo dos anos. Considerado o patrono do Senado, Ruy Barbosa foi um homem de variados trabalhos. Jurista, diplomata, político, tradutor e jornalista. Sua atuação destacada em diversas áreas evidencia sua importância para o país, mesmo 100 anos após sua morte.

Ruy Barbosa de Oliveira nasceu no dia 5 de novembro de 1849, em Salvador (BA), e morreu no dia 1º de março de 1923, em Petrópolis (RJ). Ao longo de seus 73 anos de vida, inscreveu seu nome no rol dos intelectuais mais importantes da história do Brasil.
