Summary edit

Description Fossil orthoceran nautiloid cephalopod, probably Michelinoceras, in the floor of a shopping mall in Knoxville TN. 13 cm. Built like a nautilus but straight instead of coiled - these were extinct before the dinosaurs. The back end of the animal is to your right. The front end shows some chambers in a stack that must have reminded the original paleontologist (Foeste, 1932) of the Michelin man made out of tires.
