Summary edit

Description "Chalmette Artillery. Last Line of Confederate Defense. In April 1862, a fleet of heavily armed Union ships headed up the Mississippi River to capture Confederate New Orleans. The last defense was the artillery at Chalmette, site of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. In less than an hour, the gunners ran out of powder and surrendered the post."
