Summary edit

Description Reedham, some time in the mid- to late 1990s. The lamp man is changing the oil lamps in the semaphore signals in and around the station. I think there was a lamp room on the 'up' platform, and perhaps I can remember empty oil barrels being stored on the platform. Even then, the use of oil lamps somehow seemed noteworthy to me, and something out of step with the modernisation of the railway I was using. And perhaps also I knew that the traditional semaphore signalling on the branch lines from Norwich to Yarmouth and Reedham what not be around forever. I don't know whether the signals at Reedham now use electric lamps. the semaphores are still there, but not for much longer.
