English: Vintage photocard of The Pullover road, refreshment area and cabin at Chapel St Leonards, Lincolnshire, England in 1921 or before. Franked as 1921 on reverse. Card part of The Cabin Series, Skegness.


The Chapel St Leonards' Pullover (sometimes Pull Over) was a slight dip in the line of protective sand dunes used as a route to cart goods to the village from boats at the sea edge. The name refers to this use, where it was common to have available an extra horse to aid the task of pulling over the sand dune. The wagon in this photograph is probably significant of this practice. Today, what was the sandy part to the top of the dune is a metalled road for emergency access to the beach, with the foreground area edged with novelty, alcohol and food outlets, and amusement arcades. The Pullover has given its name to the road back into what is now the built up village.
