Summary edit
DescriptionChaplain's House St. Mary's Convent Peekskill.jpg |
English: The Chaplain's House of St. Mary's Convent overlooks Peekskill, New York from a site near the city's Fort Hill Park. The Episcopal convent was founded in 1872 and eventually consisted of an Abbey, a chapel, a girl's school and the chaplain's house. The school, built in 1911, was closed in 1977 and was converted to luxury condominiums (Chateau River Apartments) in the early 1980s. The convent moved to Greenwich, Connecticut in 2003. The 1876 Abbey and 1896 Chapel were intended to be converted as well, but by 2011 work had halted, and the project -- "The Abbey at Fort Hill" -- is no longer listed on the developer's website. The Chaplain's House has been gut-renovated and is now a private residence. (Sources: [1], [2], [3], and [4]) |
