Description
English: Looking down on several hundred soldiers who are smiling, cheering and waving. Many are waving their helmets in the air on the ends of their rifles. It is probable that this was taken when the Armistice was announced on 11 November 1918.

The photograph has no original caption but it was found in the collection with other photographs from late 1918. For many of these cheering soldiers the return to civilian life was not the dream they had expected. After the war many were unemployed and many others suffered physical or mental effects of the war throughout their lives.
