| Description |
The Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower are across from each other on N. Michigan Avenue. This is a "back view" of the Wrigley Building. It looks like I took it from the Wabash Avenue Bridge over the Chicago River (later called the Irv Kupcinet Bridge after a Chicago newspaper columnist). The Wrigley Building was built in 1920-1924 for William Wrigley Jr. Co., best known for chewing gum. The south tower is 425 ft (130 m) high, and has 30 floors. Tribune Tower was built in 1923-1925. It has 36 floors, and is 462 ft (141 m) high. It was the headquarters of the Chicago Tribune, Chicago's most important newspaper, and WGN, one of the country's first 50,000-watt radio stations. |
