English: This was captioned "Chilkat Indians waiting for the Sitkans to arrive to the potlatch" There are two large Indian canoes in the water and a couple more on the bank. The two canoes in the water have American flags in the stern, and there are multiple flags on the bank. Chilkat is a band or regional designation. The area where features have the name Chilkat was occupied by Tlingit people of the Chiklat band. Two villages named Chilkat are listed in the Geograpic Dictionary of Alaska (1906) |
