Description
English: A Chinook Mk3 helicopter takes to the skies over its home station at RAF Odiham, Hampshire.

The Mk3s have been converted to a common cockpit standard with the rest of the RAF fleet at QinetiQ’s Boscombe Down facility by a team led by Boeing UK Rotorcraft Support. The opportunity has been taken to incorporate further modifications over and above the cockpit conversion, including fitting of the more powerful Honeywell 714 engines that are already being fitted to the rest of the fleet.

The remaining Mk3 Chinooks are scheduled for delivery during 2010 and will gradually join the routine rotation of aircraft through operational deployment in Afghanistan.
