Summary edit

Description
English: Church of St Mary and the Holy Cross, Binham This was the Priory church, but was saved at the Dissolution because it had also been used as the parish church since it was completed in 1240, and it is still the parish church. It is a pity that the enormous west window did not survive. It occupied so much of the wall that it had to be bricked up. Pevsner wrote that when the west front was built it was very up-to-date in style, perhaps the first of its kind in England and pre-dating Westminster Abbey. When this photograph was taken, building work was in progress, including the reconstruction of the path to the west door.
