Description
English: Church parade of 5th Battalion, Victoria Square, Montreal, Canada, probably part of the festivities surrounding Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. On the same day, a few blocks away in Notre Dame Church, a religious service was held to celebrate and honour the diamond jubilee.

The soldiers on parade were among the first generation of Canadian professional soldiers. In 1897, the Canadian army was still in its infancy; British troops had left the country only in 1871.
