The 1923 Cleveland Indians were led by player-manager Tris Speaker, who batted .380 and tied Babe Ruth for the American League RBI title with 130. Shortstop Joe Sewell hit .353 and knocked in 109 runs. George Uhle was the team’s leading starter, posting 26 wins and 16 losses, while Stan Coveleski won the ERA title with 2.76. The Indians finished the year at 82-71, just behind the Tigers, but far behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees. |
